Fla. News Network — Florida, a state surrounded by saltwater on three sides, with a massive lake in its center and an underground water table that can be just inches from the surface, is facing a daunting drought problem. Just about everywhere you look is water; however, 24% of Florida is currently under drought conditions, while a staggering 54% of the state is classified as abnormally dry, according to the National Drought Mitigation Center. This paradox has left many Floridians wondering: how can a state with such an abundance of water sources be struggling to provide drinking water for its residents?
