Governor Gavin Newsom announced today the launch of an ambitious new service year for the California Service Corps, expecting to deploy 10,000 service members who will provide over five million service hours in 2025. “As we launch this new service year with the nation’s largest service corps, we reaffirm that service to others is the highest form of civic duty,” Newsom stated. “These paid opportunities embody the best of California’s values—a commitment to each other and the belief that when we lift others, we all rise together.”
In the upcoming year, California Service Corps members will focus on various community initiatives, including tutoring and mentoring K-12 students, aiding communities in disaster recovery, addressing food insecurity, and taking climate action by planting trees and preventing wildfires. The Corps encompasses several programs, including #CaliforniansForAll College Corps, Youth Service Corps, California Climate Action Corps, and AmeriCorps California.
