AVC acquires trailer for welding space

LANCASTER — Antelope Valley College’s new state-of-the-art welding trailer adds six welding bays and a mobile lab to the college’s flourishing welding program.

The mobile lab enables the college to take the welding certification test to union workers such as at the BYD/RIDE electric bus manufacturing plant in Lancaster. The trailer can be available for new employees to learn how to start welding at work so they can get certified. The college held an open house Thursday afternoon to show off the new trailer.

“If you know how to weld, a lot of places will take it,” said Greg Bormann, dean of Aerospace, Industrial Arts and Applied Technologies. “If you have your certification, you get paid exponentially more.”…
