Moraga-Orinda Fire engine rammed by car while responding to traffic accident

(KRON) — The Moraga-Orinda Fire District (MOFD) said a vehicle struck the back of a fire truck on CA-Highway 24 as it was responding to a traffic accident Friday, sending a group to the hospital.

Authorities said it happened at 12:25 p.m. on CA-Highway 24 in Orinda when MOFD Engine 43 responded with the Oakland Fire Department to a car accident, west of the Caldecott Tunnel. The MOFD truck was parked near the center divider lane to guard the scene when “a passenger vehicle impacted the rear of the engine at freeway speeds.”

Investigators did not disclose the total number of occupants in the passenger vehicle but confirmed they were taken to nearby hospitals. Two MOFD firefighters were also taken to the hospital for evaluations. The extent of all injuries has not been released.

There is no word yet on what charges will be filed…
