Darrell F Holbrook, 64, of Parkersburg, West Virginia, left the surly bonds of this earth and touched the face of God on Friday, October 4, 2024. He was surrounded by family, friends, love, laughter, and music. The oldest of five sons to the late Floyd and June (Gibson) Holbrook, Darrell is survived by his wife of almost 44 years, Tonya (Kouns) Holbrook; daughter, Tiffanee Rice (Russel) of Parkersburg; Andrew Holbrook (Courtney) Vienna; six grandchildren, Noah, Gabriel, Lillian, Reese, Amelia, and Zephaniah; four Brothers, Paul (Patti), Jeff ( Dee), Alan (Tammy), and Doug (Joy); four nephews and seven nieces.
Music has always been a large part of Darrell’s life. He was a member of The Holbrook Family gospel group that included his four brothers and managed by their parents. After playing worship in many churches, he and his wife, children, daughter-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, and friends performed as Portal, a contemporary Christian group. He was an amazing sound technician and often volunteered his time to set up equipment and run sound for local charities and events. He and his wife owned a popular local fitness studio and were instructors alongside their daughter for 12 years. He was an event administrator, sound tech, and dancer for Thrill the World, and an advocate for Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Darrell was employed at AT&T for 44 years. He was responsible for locating and splicing fiber optic cable in the state of West Virginia. Because of his incredible work ethic, the company also hired his son (Andrew) and brother (Doug). The 3 of them were known as “the family” among their fellow employees…
