Broome watch is on again

For the second time this season, an injury to All-American basketball power forward Johni Broome has Auburn people concerned and even fearful. Broome suffered a sprained ankle early in the second half of last Saturday’s 66-63 victory at South Carolina. An MRI on Sunday determined that he would not need surgery. There has been no word yet on how long he will be out. Head coach Bruce Pearl will presumably shed more light on the situation today at his press conference.

There was similar alarm when Broome suffered a dislocated shoulder against Georgia State. Pearl said then he couldn’t imagine Broome playing in the next game against Purdue. Not only did Broome play, he scored 23 points and got 11 rebounds in an 87-69 Auburn blowout.

It isn’t likely this time that Broome will play when the No. 2 Tigers take on Mississippi State on Tuesday night at Neville Arena. But he will be back, and with the rehab he is going through as we speak, it will be sooner than many fear…
