1/13/2025: Snow showers & squalls this evening

The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:

It’s quiet and relatively mild this morning, but an approaching arctic cold front is set to bring more active weather this afternoon.

Expect high temperatures in the upper 30’s this afternoon, before snow showers roll in from the west between 3 and 6 PM. A few snow squalls are also possible, especially west of Albany, and could produce temporarily dicey driving conditions.

Widespread snow fizzles tonight, though a consistent band of lake effect snow will develop in the western Adirondacks. Overnight lows will be in the teens and low 20’s.

That band of lake effect keeps up all day Tuesday, before fizzling Wednesday morning. The rest of our area will be mainly dry. We will all be cold and blustery, with highs in the 20’s and gusts to 30 miles per hour.

Through this period, some in northern Herkimer County could pick up 6-10 inches of snow. Some in western Hamilton County will get up to a half foot. Totals are far lower and less impactful elsewhere.

We are quieter for the remainder of the work week, with temperatures gradually rising to the mid 30’s by Friday.

The weekend look unsettled, with warmer temperatures and both rain and snow showers in the valleys on Saturday, followed by lighter snow on Sunday…
