ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — A 17-year-old high school student has been arrested in connection with a menacing incident that occurred early Thursday morning at Albany High School.
At around 9:40 a.m., officers responded to Albany High School on Washington Avenue, after school officials reported a student in possession of a knife. It was determined that a school monitor witnessed an altercation between two students and observed the 17-year-old brandishing a knife during the incident. According to the police department, the monitor communicated over school radio, ultimately alerting the school resource officer in the building to respond. The school monitors broke up the altercation, and as the school resource officer was approaching, police say the 17-year-old student was still brandishing the knife in a threatening manner, which prompted the officer to draw his department-issued weapon. The officer gave several commands and directives, and the 17-year-old student dropped the knife and was taken into custody without incident.
