ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — New police chief Brendan Cox and Mayor Kathy Sheehan painted a picture of progress when it came to crime in Albany. Both Cox and Sheehan however, were particularly emphatic in their stance on gun control, saying something needs to be done.

“If you see somebody that has a gun, if you have a family member that has a gun, please get that gun off the street. Call us! Let’s get that gun off the street. We do not need more guns on our streets,” said Cox.
Albany PD crime stats show that gun crimes are down across the board over the past two years, with shootings down 55 percent and gun arrests up 8 percent. Still, the department is concerned about the ease of access in obtaining a gun.
“The fact that people can have a 3D printer that can make a handgun, something needs to be done about that. To me, it’s insane that someone can buy a piece of equipment that can make a gun,” said Cox…
