Equinox hands over Thanksgiving tradition to Regional Food Bank

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Equinox will no longer be hosting its annual Thanksgiving dinner and take-out meals, the organization announced on Monday. Instead, the Regional Food Bank will be taking over the Thanksgiving tradition.

Equinox had been holding its traditional Thanksgiving dinner each year before the COVID pandemic hit. Since then, the organization delivered Thanksgiving meals, and then provided take-out meals and a sit-down dinner at a local church last year.

The organization said it is now focusing on year-round food insecurity. Equinox is forming a Food Security Task Force with Whitney Young Health to assess the needs of their clients. Currently, Equinox provides three meals a day at its Domestic Violence Shelter and Mental Health Residences, a food pantry for homeless youth in its Transitional Living Program, and lunch to those with addiction and mental health disorders in its Personalized Recovery Oriented Services program.

Instead of a sit-down Thanksgiving dinner, the Regional Food Bank will be having several drive-thru distributions the weekend before Thanksgiving. The distributions will include food boxes, as well as prepared meals. More details will soon be released on the Regional Food Bank website .
