Dalton — Central Berkshire Habitat for Humanity (CBHFH) announced via a press release that the Equitable Homebuyer Selection Process for 16 Gulf Road in Dalton was completed on Tuesday, October 29, at 4 p.m. The family of four that was chosen will now work with their lender towards the closing process.
The Town of Dalton sold the land for this property to Habitat for $1, and the Select Board assisted Habitat through the construction process. Allegrone Construction donated their labor to jumpstart the construction, excavation, and framing to close on the home. Various volunteer groups, partnering subcontractors, and Habitat’s own Build & Repair Corps completed the construction of the all-electric home, which achieved a Level 2 rating from MassSave’s All-Electric Homes Program—the first in Massachusetts to earn that energy rating.
What is a Fair Housing Lottery?
According to a press release issued by CBHFH, “Fair Housing Lotteries are essential to ensuring that affordable homeownership opportunities are accessible to those who need them most. These lotteries create a fair and transparent process, giving everyone an equal chance to secure housing that meets their needs and budget.” These lotteries provide opportunities to purchase an affordable home at under-market value. The lottery simply determines which families have the first opportunities to purchase these homes. The “winner” still has to obtain a mortgage from a lender, make monthly housing payments, and contribute to the tax base of communities in which they purchase.
CBHFH has an additional four condo units in Pittsfield that are nearing completion and will soon be ready for families to move in…
