TROY — If you needed to juice up your New Year’s resolutions, the Albany Symphony’s concert on Saturday night in the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall was a good place to be. There was an inspiring sense of strength, purpose and renewal to the entire program. Beethoven had a lot to do with that.
The timeless composer’s prose inspired the short vigorous opener, Carlos Simon’s “Fate Now Conquers.” That title is a phrase borrowed from Beethoven’s journal, and his spirit was also in the weighty but fleet music. Last winter the ASO played Simon’s equally impressive Pentecostal-inspired ‘Amen!” We’re ready for more from the 39 year-old composer.
