Judge orders detention for Geneva man charged with killing girlfriend, son

The Geneva man accused of murdering his girlfriend and her son will remain detained ahead of his trial.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office says 50-year-old Alejandro Cota appeared in court earlier this week, where a judge agreed with the state to keep him detained at the Kane County Jail in St. Charles. Cota reportedly also agreed to remain in custody.

Prosecutors allege that on December 26, Cota stabbed 47-year-old Christina Chavira and her 13-year-old son. He was found with the victims after police forced entry into a home in the 2700 block of Emma’s Way. Officers were responding to a domestic violence 9-1-1 call at the time…
