ESSEX — Large wooden paintings displaying colorful, quilt-like geometry speckle Vermont’s green mountain countryside, and are growing ever-more popular around town, largely thanks to Essex Town resident Kimberly Hess.
Hess, who has a background in quilting but made the switch to the Americana folk tradition of barn quilt painting about four years ago, brings color and life to the greater Essex area through her own paintings and by teaching classes under the name Barn Quilt Therapy.
“I have been a quilter for a lot of my life… My mom was a quilter… It was sort of what I called my Zen,” Hess said. “And then I discovered barn quilts and that became my focus.”…
