Broward County is launching its annual Point-in-Time Count today, an effort to survey the homeless population over a three-day stretch ending on Saturday. The collaborative push involves Broward’s Housing Options, Solutions and Supports Division, alongside the TaskForce Fore Ending Homelessness, Broward Sheriff’s Office, and multiple local police departments, according to an announcement by the county. The Point-in-Time Count aims to provide a current snapshot of the needs of the unhoused community and fuels the mission to find sustainable solutions.
Required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, this survey gathers crucial data for the Homeless Continuum of Care (CoC) — a network aiming to end homelessness through diverse strategies, including housing services, prevention, and more. In an undertaking wrapped with a desire to deeply understand the crisis, this year’s count is supported by over 100 community volunteers. Patrice Paldino, Director of Broward County Housing Options, Solutions, and Supports Division, underscored the importance of the survey, telling Broward County, “The Point-In-Time Count is a vital effort that not only sheds light on the scope and needs of homelessness in our community but also strengthens our collective resolve to create meaningful solutions. This collaborative initiative underscores the importance of partnerships across public safety, service providers, and community volunteers in addressing one of Broward County’s most pressing challenges.”…
