Dearborn Police Utilize High-Tech Tools to Capture Suspect in Stolen Car Case

On Monday, Dearborn police apprehended a 20-year-old man, identified as Avion Johnson, after a Flock license plate reader flagged a vehicle as stolen near Brady and Cherry Hill streets. As reported by The Detroit News, Johnson was charged with receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, a crime that carries a potential five-year prison sentence.

Johnson’s bond was set at $500 and was arraigned on Wednesday. After the vehicle was detected, additional officers and a drone equipped with a night-vision camera were deployed to locate the suspect, leading to a brief pursuit on foot. Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin, in a statement obtained by ClickOnDetroit, lauded the advanced technology that included license plate cameras and drones, praising the efficient collaboration between officers which resulted in the swift apprehension of Johnson.

Beyond the charge for the stolen vehicle, investigations also linked Johnson to attempted car break-ins in Dearborn’s Country Club neighborhood.
