CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Cape Coral is moving closer to removing the Chiquita Lock, a longstanding source of frustration for local boaters.
After years of debate, city officials are in the final steps of the process and preparing to remove the lock.
Boater John Jarozseski, who has advocated for the lock’s removal for two decades, describes it as a “monstrosity.” He said the structure was never properly maintained and it’s damaged two of his boats, costing him money.
