ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) – U.P. shoppers may be noticing that grocery stores are struggling to keep enough eggs in the cooler for customer demand while also keeping them affordable.
A lawmaker said high prices are because of the bird flu, but one Escanaba grocer said Michigan’s new cage-free egg law is to blame.
“The one thing that the cage-free did it has drove up the price,” Grocery Co-Owner Mike Dagenais said. “The Eggland’s Best extra-large, I was selling for $3.19. And I can’t get any right now, but then I had to go to $4.09.”…
