Mattawan students to help shape Michigan education policy through advisory council

MATTAWAN, Mich. — Michigan created the Department of Education State Advisory Council in 2020 to look at how student input could help shape education policies.

Two Mattawan high schoolers have been named to that relatively new advisory council, and their recommendations could serve others long after they graduate on important issues.

Caroline Gruber and Kerrigan Metheny are two of only 50 students in Michigan on the panel, which meets every month through Zoom and twice a year in person in Lansing…
