Michigan communities band together with lawsuit in state zoning battle

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Keeping control local, that’s what a number of Michigan communities are fighting for, as they join a coalition against a state law that goes into effect at the end of November.

The act allows the operation of large-scale wind, solar and energy storage projects regardless of the local zoning district. It’s called, public Act 233 and was approved by Michigan Governor, Gretchen Whitmer, in November 2023 and will go into effect on Nov. 29, 2024.

The Michigan Public Service Commission released a 168-page order of the rules for implementing PA233, on Oct. 10. The coalition of Michigan municipalities is suing MPSC over the wording of this order…
