Daytona Beach could pursue extending its five community redevelopment areas beyond 2036

DAYTONA BEACH — Extending the Boardwalk south to Harvey Avenue. Building a new roundabout at Beach Street and Fairview Avenue. Making the first major improvements to the Ridgewood Avenue corridor in decades.

Those are some of the big ideas the city’s government employees want to pursue as Daytona Beach sees the finish line coming into view on the extra property tax dollars the city has been able to collect in its specially designated community redevelopment areas since the early 1980s.

The community redevelopment areas have given the city nearly $200 million over the past four decades, providing money for everything from pier improvements to new sidewalks…
