Alleged thief arrested for ‘major fuel loss’ at Hernando County gas station: FHP

SPRING HILL, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was taken into custody over the weekend after authorities said they caught him trying to steal barrels full of fuel from a gas station in Hernando County.

A manager at the RaceTrac gas station located off a Cortez Boulevard in Spring Hill contacted law enforcement on Friday, Jan. 10 after receiving a system alert regarding a “major fuel loss in progress.”

The manager reported spotting a silver van parked in an area where tankers replenish the gas station’s fuel reservoir, according to a joint release from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of the van had already taken off by the time authorities arrived, but the manager was reportedly able to provide a tag number along with a direction of travel…
