Two Maine Cities Named Among ‘Most Sinful’ in Nation

‘Tis the season where people play closer attention to whether you’ll be on the nice list or the naughty list. And if you believe the latest findings from WalletHub, Maine is home to a pair of cities that are going to get coal in their stocking.

WalletHub has released their “Most Sinful Cities in America” list for 2024

WalletHub compiled data using 37 different factors, like the amount of people who drink, smoke or gamble regularly to other more broad data points like crime per capita as well as drug use.

From there, WalletHub assigned a ranking to every city based on five major categories:

  • Anger and Hatred
  • Jealousy
  • Excesses and Vices
  • Greed
  • Lust

Based on those major categories, a pair of Maine cities rank amongst the “most sinful’ in the entire nation.

Lewiston is Deemed the “Most Sinful” City in All of Maine

Based on the data points from WalletHub, Lewiston is the “most sinful” city in the entire state of Maine. There’s some good news and bad news that comes along with that.

The bad news is that Lewiston ranked relatively high on a pair of WalletHub’s major categories. Lewiston was #58 in excesses and vices and #16 in the greed category.

The good news? Despite being the “most sinful” city in the state, Lewiston only ranks #127 out of the 180 cities that made the list.

Portland is the Other “Most Sinful” City in Maine

Portland, Maine, typically makes a lot of lists with most of their appearances being based on food, beer or something else positive.
