Man arrested for homicide by vehicle and DUI charges in a fatal crash in Cheltenham

NORRISTOWN –– A Philadelphia man has been charged with homicide by vehicle and driving under the influence in a September crash that killed a 28-year-old man in Cheltenham.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Cheltenham Township Police Chief John Slavin on Thursday announced the arrest of Cedric Galette, 47, of Philadelphia, on charges related to the Sept. 18 crash death of Troy Rivera.

According to a press release from Steele and Slavin, Cheltenham Township Police responded to a vehicle crash at North 5th Street and Cheltenham Avenue in the Melrose Park section of Cheltenham Township at 10 p.m., Sept. 18. They arrived to find two vehicles: a 2007 silver Cadillac CTS, driven by Galette, and a 2022 black Cadillac SUV, driven by Rivera.

Rivera was extricated from his vehicle and transported to Jefferson-Abington Hospital, where he died 10 days later, police said. Galette was removed from his vehicle by medical personnel and transported to Jefferson Einstein with serious injuries…
