Atlanta City Council members on Monday approved $1.7 million for additional security measures at the site of the city’s controversial public safety training facility. Approval came after initially voting down the proposal.
It’s the third increase to the project price tag that city officials said are to address “a need for security provisions” at the 85-acre property. The legislation also waived the procurement process and gave the job directly to Brasfield & Gorrie — the primary contractor on the project.
The legislation initially failed by a 7-4 vote, with at least eight votes needed to pass. After a motion to reconsider, the proposal passed 9-4. None of the council members who voted against the additional funding commented on their reasoning during the council meeting…
