Our friends in the Southeast are getting a taste of Old Man Winter, and some rare time on the slopes. Over this past weekend, Alabama’s only ski area, Cloudmont, opened fully for the first time in five years. Following a winter storm warning for the area, the ski area received 1-2″ of snow, and with a little help from man-made snowmaking efforts, it proved just barely enough to cover the area’s modest slopes. Cloudmont opened for a half day of skiing at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025 and plans to be open, conditions dependent, through MLK weekend. The ski area will be open today, January 13, 2025 for night skiing only.
