Firearm Storage in Colorado Vehicles

Colorado’s new gun laws for 2025 focus on safety and the storage of handguns in unattended vehicles. These firearms will now be required to be stored in a locked container that is kept out of view.

According to HB24-1348, If you are leaving a firearm unattended in a vehicle in the state of Colorado the vehicle must be kept locked. If you keep the firearm in the trunk, you must make sure the truck is also locked. Gun owners with soft-sided containers will be required to have an activated locking device on the firearm.

Fines for Improper Storage

According to Coloradoan.com, Improper firearm storage on a property you own or control is a Class 2 misdemeanor, punishable by up to 120 days in jail, a fine of up to $750, or both…
