Former Colorado judge censured after years of drinking on the job

DENVER — The Colorado Supreme Court has formally censured Brett Woods, a former Denver Juvenile Court presiding judge, after revelations that he had been drinking on the job for years before any disciplinary action was taken.

Attorneys say the lengthy investigation has complicated efforts to appeal his rulings.

Woods, who served as a judge for 17 years before stepping down in February, admitted to consuming alcohol during work hours. According to findings from the Colorado Commission on Judicial Discipline, alcohol use included “concealing alcohol in a Starbucks cup that he keeps at his desk.”…
