If the three ballot questions for the replacement of the R.C. Icabone Pool don’t all pass Nov. 5, the Cañon City Piranha Swim Team might no longer exist because practicing in Florence isn’t a long-term solution, said Angela Evagash, spokesperson for the team.
For the past two summers, the team, which consists of Fremont County children ages 6 and up, has practiced in Florence. Their pool has no diving blocks for practicing starts and only one marked lap lane, compared to Icabone’s six, she said.
“Florence’s pool is smaller than the Icabone pool … and its resources, space and open time slots for our team are limited,” Evagash said, adding that Icabone had been the team’s home for almost 60 years…
