Fort Myer City Council could restrict trucks on popular, historical McGregor Boulevard

Fort Myers City Council is considering an ordinance that would ban heavy trucks from using McGregor Boulevard as a pass-thru.

Councilman Liston Bochette says that the heavy trucks endanger pedestrians and motorists alike as they use the heavily residential, heavily traveled historic roadway to reach destinations beyond the city. He says he counted more than 20 heavy trucks per half-hour.

McGregor stretches from downtown Fort Myers to Punta Rassa. Fort Myers first paved road, completed in 1915 and passes the Edison & Ford Winter Estates and the historic figure of Rachel at the Well. It provides a quicker route from southbound U.S. 41 access to Fort Myers Beach and Sanibel and Captiva islands…
