In a recent development highlighting a serious case of healthcare fraud, two Mesa residents have pleaded guilty to their involvement in a fraudulent scheme. Eric Riley, 38, and Britney Gooch, 37, each admitted to charges of healthcare fraud, as confirmed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Their guilty pleas were made before U.S. District Judge Krissa M. Lanham, bringing an end to their exploitation of the Arizona Medicaid system.
In the admitted facts of the case, Riley and Gooch operated New Horizons Behavioral Health, a behavioral health clinic out of Mesa, Arizona, which became the front for their illicit activities. Designed to provide care, through this clinic they instead engaged, convicted for defrauding the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), claiming about $3.3 million in fraudulent proceeds.
The maximum penalties for healthcare fraud include up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing for Eric Riley and Britney Gooch is scheduled for February 21, 2025.
