Hundreds of hate, bias incidents reported to NY since Oct. 7 Hamas attack

Albany, N.Y. — New Yorkers reported 404 incidents of alleged hate or bias to the state Division of Human Rights in the year following the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel, with more antisemitic actions recorded than any other kind.

New Yorkers also notified the agency of many cases of prejudicial conduct that was racially motivated, anti-Palestinian or involved a disability, according to data obtained by the Times Union.

Fourteen months ago, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the Division of Human Rights had launched a hotline, 844-NO-2-HATE, and an online form for reporting hate or bias incidents to the state.
