Brockton High evacuated after student’s laptop caught fire. What to know

BROCKTON — A student’s laptop caught on fire at Brockton High School Friday morning , school district officials said.

Students and staff evacuated the building and Brockton School Police officers extinguished the fire, according to a Friday statement from Jordan Mayblum, Brockton Public Schools communications director.

“We are grateful for the quick actions of school police in extinguishing this fire and ensuring student and staff safety,” said Maybum in the statement.

What caused the fire?

No injuries occurred from the fire, which was caused by a district-issued laptop, and the Brockton Fire Department responded and cleared the scene after using “special equipment meant for remediating lithium-ion battery fires,” said Mayblum…
