RE: Major Washington Street redesign stirs debate over bike lanes, parking

Myself as a Town Meeting Member along with a majority of my fellow Town Meeting Members have shown support to have real, protected bike lanes as part of the Washington Street project. Not only do we support this but believe all people in our town have a right to be able to arrive at their destination safely however they choose to travel, whether by vehicle, bicycle, walking or taking the MBTA bus or trolley. As Town Meeting Members, we look at the whole and the future of Brookline. There is plenty of parking on Beacon Street to support the Washington Square location. And at the Brookline Village location, there are plenty. Just over at the garage on Pearl Street, the landlord reports they have two floor (out of seven floors) of parking available every day, which is 200+ parking spaces. More than enough to support Brookline Village businesses. When you go into Boston for dinner or show, you don’t expect to get parking in front of the restaurant or theater, do you?
