Summer Nights is on the verge of being cancelled by the city

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) — Summer Nights in Rapid City has been a downtown celebration since 2008 – now that could all be coming to an end.

Summer nights is a weekly concert series that runs every Thursday evening during the 14-week season.

Board members say it’s an inclusive event for everyone to gather and celebrate downtown Rapid City.

“I get that we do have an impact on some businesses. We do close the street. But we also bring down 5,000 people and that’s free marketing. Right when you’ve got drive-by traffic that can actually see what’s in your store, that has to be a benefit at some, maybe not that day but it has to be a benefit overall,” Summer Nights Board President Judd Nielsen said…
