In response to rising concerns over speeding and aggressive driving on California roads, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has been awarded a $2.6 million federal grant for the Speed Prevention, Education, and Enforcement Deterrence (SPEED III) program. This funding will support new safety measures aimed at curbing dangerous driving behaviors statewide.
Speeding remains a major factor in traffic accidents across California. In the 2022-2023 federal fiscal year, speed contributed to around 39% of fatal and injury crashes in the state, leading to 28,781 speed-related incidents, over 390 deaths, and more than 28,000 injuries.
“Securing this federal grant is a vital step in our commitment to making California’s roads safer for everyone,” said CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee. The grant will help the CHP implement targeted enforcement and public awareness campaigns to reduce speeding and aggressive driving.…
