Ontario Duo Accused of Over 50 Thefts Across California Arrested by Riverside County Sheriff’s Department

A duo suspected of a slew of shoplifting incidents across California has been nabbed by the authorities, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. In a late-October press release, officials detailed how 51-year-old Giovanni Munoz Leon and 32-year-old Nury Herrera, both hailing from Ontario, were apprehended on Thursday, October 24, after a vigilant investigation linked them to more than 50 thefts with a combined haul exceeding $123,000 in stolen merchandise.

The investigation, led by the Lake Elsinore Robbery/Burglary Team, swung into action following a report of grand theft from a Lake Elsinore beauty supply store on August 28. The same suspects are accused of brazenly returning to the exact store a month later to steal a further $2,000 in beauty products. Their shopping spree didn’t just stop there; from June to October, Leon and Herrera managed to allegedly compile a hefty sum of ill-gotten goods.

Deputies and investigators, working closely with the employees of the beauty store, were able to quickly and decisively identify the suspects, leading to their eventual capture. A targeted vehicle stop in the city of Ontario was the beginning of the end for Leon and Herrera. A subsequent search warrant executed at their residence in the 2500 block of East Riverside Drive turned up evidence connecting them to the crimes, as well as additional stolen clothing from various retail outlets…
