One person is dead and an officer was shot Tuesday evening in north Long Beach following a standoff with an armed man, according to police and Mayor Rex Richardson.
Officers were called to the area of Atlantic Avenue and 52nd Street for a report of a man armed with a gun at about 3:15 p.m. There, police officers sought additional support from a hostage negotiator and mental evaluation team to try to reason with the man.
After all efforts failed, a SWAT team was deployed.
About two hours after initially contacting the man, fire was opened by officers and the suspect, according to police. The man was shot at least once by police officers and one officer was shot in the arm during the exchange. It is unclear who shot first…
