Goodwill of Southern Nevada Urges Community to Donate for New Year, Fuels Job Training and Sustainability Efforts

As we step into 2025, Goodwill of Southern Nevada (GSN) is calling on community members to begin the new year by decluttering their homes and making donations that can significantly impact the lives of others. GSN operates 17 stores throughout the valley, offering convenient drop-off points for those looking to part with gently used items. The act of donating does more than just give goods a second life; it empowers individuals seeking employment through the various job training programs that GSN supports. “When you donate to Goodwill, you are not only helping divert those items away from local landfills,” a GSN representative explained to News3LV. “You are also helping fund jobs for those who work the retail stores, as well as programs that train job seekers to become certified nursing assistants, medical assistants, and stagehands.”

According to information from Goodwill’s website, their programs are an asset to the community, “We transform your donations into free job training and placement for locals.” Beyond the societal impact, donors receive an added incentive: a tax receipt, courtesy of Goodwill’s status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which allows for tax deductions.

Environmentally conscious residents of Southern Nevada can also take comfort in Goodwill’s efforts to promote sustainability. Nearly 40 million pounds of goods are redirected from local landfills each year as a result of their operations.
