LEXINGTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Firefighters face many challenges while they’re on the job, especially when dealing with extreme cold.
It’s something Kentucky firefighters and EMS have to do as we dive into snowy and icy conditions.
Extreme cold presents several challenges, adding an extra element firefighters have to work through on a call. District Chief Nathan Settles says that includes homes being harder to get to, hoses and water lines freezing, difficulty moving stretchers and other emergency equipment, and finding ways to keep themselves and any victims warm while they work.
