It was reported today that Vince Marrow turned down the chance to join North Carolina’s coaching staff alongside new head coach Bill Belichick. This would seemingly be good news for the Kentucky Wildcats, and Kentucky fans would rejoice at the opportunity to retain their associate head coach and top recruiter, right? It has mixed reviews. However, many are frustrated that this is part of the news cycle every year.
Every season, ” Vince Marrow is linked to X job,” and every time, “Marrow turns it down.” He is often associated with a pay bump for his job at Kentucky (though not this time), and many fans are frustrated with him continually seeking or being sought after by jobs only to continue to beat the drum of “look how loyal I am!”

This is actually the second supposed job he’s turned down this offseason. The first was a job offer to join the Louisville staff. Kentucky fans may be jaded by a bad season after going 4-8 and only getting one SEC win and seeing this Marrow thing through that light. However, Kentucky fans have been talking about this for a few years. It seems as if Marrow’s agent is good at getting his name in the news, followed by a pay bump. Whether that’s true or not remains to be seen, but perception is often reality for fanbases…
