Meet the woman responsible for hundreds of elaborate pumpkin displays

Spring Branch native Heather Torres’ love of fall and pumpkins came from living in Dallas, not Houston. It’s just too hot in the Bayou City for a traditional fall, so growing up, her autumn was mostly football at Northbrook High School. “To me, fall in Houston is the ringing in of homecoming mums ,” Torres said.

Still, on Sept. 27, Torres will be headed down I-45 with her popular pumpkin delivery service, Porch Pumpkins , which decorates hundreds of Houston homes each fall. Torres and her team artfully arrange an assortment of small, medium and jumbo-sized pumpkins on porches and patios to create lavish cascades that last through Thanksgiving. She launched the service back in 2020, decorating nearly 250 porches throughout DFW, where she currently lives. This year, she has around 1,000 clients—including an Astros player—booked across both Dallas and Houston.
