ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A new study shows one-quarter of freshwater animals are at risk of extinction but the ABQ BioPark is stepping up as a key player in conservation efforts.

Tim Lyons co-authored the study and said even though the government recognizes the declining habitats, there needs to be action. “There’s so much opportunity to do good in this space and there’s not enough resourcing, there’s not enough political will at the moment… So I really hope that one of the major outcomes of this landmark study is to show the general public and all conservation stakeholders that freshwaters need help now!” said Director of Conservation Tim Lyons, ABQ BioPark.
