ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – One of the UNM Lobos team captains, Robert Pearce, has found a way to make a difference away from the football field. Pearce convinced his Lobo lineman teammates to donate some of their NIL money to purchase turkeys and other trimmings for a Thanksgiving giveaway.
“Growing up, I was in a family that wasn’t as fortunate and I just always remembered me and my dad and my mom being able to go to a specific church or someone giving away turkeys or Thanksgiving dinners,” said Pearce. “I know at my last university I wanted to do it as well but I wasn’t in a situation that I am now. So, I did have some extra finances. I was able to do it and get some of my teammates to get on board with it and we just ran with it from there.”
Funds raised from Tuesday through Friday, Nov. 22 will be added to the offensive line’s NIL donations to purchase turkeys and Thanksgiving trimmings for the offensive line to give out on Sunday morning. “The plan was for us to help out 40 or 50 families,” said Pearce. “As we posted it, it kind of blew up in the city of Albuquerque. So, as of right now, we are trying to find a little over 100 families but the plan is to get as many donations and feed as many as we can.”…
