PORTLAND (WGME) — Hurricane Helene is expected to cause major to catastrophic damage to parts of Florida’s gulf coast and beyond.
Red Cross volunteers from southern Maine are in Tampa, riding out the storm and ready to help as Helene hits the Gulf Coast.
“Right now, we are in the hotel. We can’t leave because of the imminent danger, I guess, of the storm,” Red Cross volunteer Ruth Lathrop said. “So, we’re waiting it out. As soon as it’s over, we will be out in our shelters helping the people.”…
