Kings Mountain creek contaminated by former textile mill

Kings Mountain residents are being warned to avoid portions of a creek located near a city park that has been contaminated with chemicals from a former mill.

According to a post made on the city’s Facebook page, the contaminants were discovered on April 25, 2023, after the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality collected surface water samples from a portion of Potts Creek adjacent to the city park and west of North Sims Street “as part of an ongoing effort to monitor the safety of water for recreational use.”
