Brian Goodwin and Amy Smith were killed nearly a year ago in the basement apartment of a Davenport home.
The trial of the two people accused of shooting Goodwin and Smith starts Monday with jury selection in the Scott County Courthouse.
Adriana Blake and Devon Braet face two counts each of first-degree murder and a host of other charges in the Jan. 15, 2024, slaying at 5210 N. Division St. The bodies of Goodwin and Smith were discovered in the early morning hours of the next day after neighbors called in a fire at the home.
Scott County Attorney Kelly Cunningham is expected to tell the jury Blake and Braet believed Goodwin had large sums of money and killed him and Smith during a robbery.
What jurors won’t hear
During trial, the prosecution’s case will not include testimony or evidence alleging Blake and Braet were involved with narcotics distribution, according to court records.
