Golden Hawk Girls Take Two of Three at Wilton Monday

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls wrestling team grabbed a couple of River Valley Conference dual wins Monday at Wilton, taking on West Liberty, Tipton and the home Beavers in an RVC quad. The Hawks beat the Tigers 60-12 and the Comets 45-36 before falling to the home Beavers 42-36. Five Golden Hawks had perfect evenings. Ruby Miller scored two falls and a 5-4 decision win, Ellie Callahan had a pair of pins, and Ashlee Farrier, Mardie Berry and Cassie Trimpe had one fall each. After the meet, Miller and Callahan spoke with KCII Sports about the night for them and the team.

Miller said, “I wrestle all three periods and go hard. I normally wait for them to take a (shot) and catch them in a bad place. Tonight, I took shots and ended up getting pins. We all wrestled really good today and tried our best.”

Callahan continued, “I’m taking more shots than I normally do. I’m finally getting comfortable taking shots. I knew I had to go out there and be the aggressor. Whether that was taking shots, or stuffing their face down in the mat to get the pin. We had a lot of tough opponents tonight and I really do think this is giving our team more confidence. I think our team is going to come back hard and spend more time working hard in practice.”…
