Janesville woman sentenced to 20 years for sex assault to child

JANESVILLE — A Janesville woman accused of standing by while children were sexually assaulted in her home was sentenced to 20 years in prison last week.

Kelly Markham, 53, was sentenced in Rock County Circuit Court by Judge Ashley Morse on the charge of second-degree sexual assault of a child, according to a news release from the Rock County District Attorney’s Office. Charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child — party to the crime, first degree sexual assault of a child and child enticement were dismissed. Charges were filed against Markham Nov. 1, 2023, according to online court records.

Over the span of three decades, Markham stood by during the sexual assault of children and at least once perpetrating sexual assault herself, according to the news release. The 20-year prisons sentence is the maximum sentence under the law…
