ROME, N.Y. (WSYR) — The City of Rome was hit by a tornado on July 16 and has not stopped rebuilding for nearly five months. But the damage has not dampened the holiday spirit, especially downtown.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do…moving forward to rebuild, and that’s what we’re focusing on right now,” Rome Mayor Jeffrey Lanigan said. “But as far as the holiday season, we’re all here to enjoy it. We’re all here to forget about that for a couple of days and be with the family.”
Bruce Hairston, the president of the Chamber of Commerce, said his community continues to fight back against past hardships.
